When Ashley and I first started our blog, I had mentioned that I was seeking to get certified in eyelash extensions– and I did! Throughout this process I have learned a lot about lashes and how amazing they really are. So I compiled a list of pros and cons so you are able to determine if eyelash extensions are right for you.
PROS:
- No Mascara! With lash extensions, there is absolutely no reason to wear mascara; actually, you’re not even supposed to. However, if you really want to wear mascara, ask your lash stylist for one that is specifically for lash extensions.
- Cut your morning make-up routine in half! All of my lash customers have told me that some days they throw on a little Too Faced Bronzer and some lip gloss or lipstick and they feel like they have a complete face!
- The lash nap – – of course! During the 90 – 120 minute service, most clients find it so relaxing that they just drift off to sleep.
- They last weeks! This isn’t like a strip lash (that you take off in the evening) or the individual lashes that come off after a couple of days, these lashes last between 3-4 weeks and with the right care, up to 5!
- They are totally safe for your natural lashes. They won’t ruin your natural lashes if done by a certified professional. Do your research; not all certifications are created equal! I attended the Lavish Lashes training course. They provide a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience, while focusing on safety, sanitation, and technique. They use and provide the highest quality of products and make sure each student has a thorough knowledge of the technique. To become certified, all students must pass a timed exam on a real client.
- You can get them wet! Shower, swim, hot tub, or relaxing in a bath– you don’t need to be afraid to get them wet (after 24-48 hours of having fresh ones put on)!
- Perfect for your Special Day! Tons of brides (and bridesmaids) are getting lashes! They look absolutely gorgeous in photographs, your eyes look bright, and– BONUS– your mascara won’t run (refer to #1)!
- It doesn’t hurt! (refer to #3).
- Compliments – Be prepared for tons of compliments!
- Confidence – With perfect lashes and a strong cup of coffee, a woman is unstoppable! 😉
CONS:
- After care — To maintain the quality of the lashes you need to make sure that you take care of them from home. This means brushing them multiple times a day, cleaning them properly, and avoiding sleeping on your stomach or side– if at all possible.
- The impostors! There are a lot of people who say they are “certified” to do lash extensions. Again, make sure you research them first. If they say they can have you in and out in 20 minutes — run for the hills!
- Fills – trust me, once you have these on the first time you are going to want to maintain them, but the only way to do that is to get them filled regularly. Try to remember to re-book with your lash stylist so you’re guaranteed to get in when you need the fill! If you wait too long you’ll need a full set!
- Products – You can only use certain products on your lashes to care for them. You want to stay away from oil-based make-up and make-up remover because it could lift your lashes. Ask your lash stylist if what you are currently using is safe for your lashes.
- Cost. Yes, the cost can be considered a “con.” However, I am a firm believer that you should treat-yo-self! Demographics, skill level, the type of lashes being used, and the amount of lashes are all factors that determine the cost. During the consultation your lash stylist can inform you of the cost.
I know a lot of Lash Stylists that are fully booked, and growing, with the beauty industries hottest new trend! So the question is… do you think lashes are right for you? If you are already rockin’ eyelash extensions, remember– a referral is the best compliment a lash stylist can get!!
