In science, there is always a positive for every negative. I believe that in most situations there is a positive outcome that can come from a negative, even if we don’t know what they are. For example: Slept in an extra hour and now your late for work? Maybe you were being protected from something. Didn’t get that job you interviewed for? Maybe it would cause you too much stress. Relationship didn’t work out? They probably weren’t meant for you. Now, I am just your average girl, co-writing a blog. By no means do I want to give anyone bad advice, but I can tell you I am a very positive person; today I just want to share some ways I cope with a bad day or bad situation.
Morning Prep
- Speak Positively: Instead of something going wrong first thing and saying, “Ugh, this is going to be an awful day,” let’s tr,y “That’s OK. I’m not going to let anything ruin my day!” Don’t let the small things determine what kind of day you have.
- Appearance: I can’t tell you how many times I have started the day off in a bad mood and just rolled with it, including the way I look that day. Even if you absolutely don’t want to, strive to style your hair and put a little makeup on. Maybe go the extra mile and choose jeans over yoga pants (I know i’ts hard), but trust me you will instantly start to gain a little confidence.
- Pray and meditate: Take a few moments to pray for a positive day or to gather your thoughts. Even if you are riding in your car, turn the radio down, talk with God, and set the tone for the rest of the day! Something as simple as, “Dear God, help me to have strength and a positive attitude throughout my entire day. When things don’t go as I hope or plan, walk with me and guide me through the struggles. Amen.”
- Stop at Dunkin’ Donuts: Haha okayyyy.. I know this isn’t really necessary, but DD makes Ash and I so very happy, so I thought it might help! *giggles*
Afternoon Pick-me Ups
- Positive Reminders and Verses: I do this often – – write on Post-it notes positive things about yourself, your day, the situation you are facing, etc. (Things like, “You are strong,” You got this!” “It’s all going to work out!” My ultimate favorite “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10.) Post them on your computer screen, in your car, on your bathroom mirror, whereever you need them!
- Pinterest: Log on to Pinterest and create a “Positive Quotes” board. Look at it often. Mine is filled with tons of Bible verses and wonderful uplifting sayings. I took the liberty of linking ALM Positive Vibes Board here (feel free to follow the board– we are always updating it!)
- Smile: Even if you don’t feel like it, smile! Eventually you will begin smiling and won’t even need to try!
- Remove yourself from negativity: If there are people around you putting off negative vibes, stay away from them, at least for the day. You can’t afford to be around someone else’s negative thoughts when you are battling your own!
Evening Reflections:
- Write it down: Write down every single blessing and positive thing that happened to you throughout the day! You will find that when you truly start thinking about the positive and start writing, you wont be able to stop.
- Set the tone for the next day: Prepare your mind by assuring yourself that you are going to have a great day!
- End the day with a prayer: Let this be your quiet time before you rest to say “thank you” for the Lord’s help.
Hope everyone has a fabulous day! Remember to be like a pineapple “stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside!”
