Recently, Erin and I did a casual summer night shoot in our oversized cardigan sweaters and shorts. As I got ready for this, I knew I didn’t want to wear heavy make-up. Sometimes, you just know certain outfits don’t pair right with your typical “evening” make-up.
A few weeks ago, my friends, Josh and Mallory, sent me a beautiful Young Living natural mineral make-up kit as a gift and it has ever so perfectly provided a soft natural glow when I need it most. The mineral foundation and blush have become part of my every day look. I love how lightweight they are. In fact, it looks and feels like there is no make-up on your skin, while providing a flawless finish.
When I received this kit, it was almost too pretty to use! To achieve a natural look for summer, I’m going to take you through my steps using some of the items in this kit and some of my regular cosmetic items from Sephora.
First, I applied the mineral foundation. You do this by first spritzing the brush with mineral misting spray. This allows your cosmetic brush to pick up the mineral foundation so it can be applied evenly to the skin. (This foundation comes in numerous different shades, but I use Warm#2.) It applies smoothly with a very flawless, lightweight finish. I love this. Heavy, thick foundation is the worst. The lightweight feeling of this foundation is marvelous. It smooths out imperfections and uneven skin tones in a natural, subdued way. What I love about this foundation (and the other Young Living cosmetic products) is that it is all natural! It’s made without synthetics, fillers, or parabens.
This kit does come with one cosmetic brush. If you are looking for a good brush set, my best friend, Ally, got me this one for my birthday and it has every brush I could ever need (from foundation to shadow)!
Next, I applied my favorite concealer for brightening up the eye area, Bye Bye Undereye Illumination. I always apply this with a moist Original Beauty Blender (don’t waste your time with knock-off sponges. They don’t work nearly as well as this one!) and then use Laura Mercier translucent powder to set it. I leave this on while I do other parts of my make-up routine (for about 5 minutes or so), then brush it off with a fluffy cosmetic brush. My best friend and make-up aficionado, Ally, taught Erin and me how to do this! We were such amateurs back then! lol
While “baking,” the name for letting the powder set your concealer, I apply my eye make-up. I’ve recently mastered filling in my eyebrows, as this wasn’t something I used to do. Ironically, two years ago, a student in my Algebra B class was like, “Your eyebrows have some blonde spots. You need to fill them in.” I ignored her. Really?! Like some 15-year-old is going to tell me how to do my make-up. lol Yeah, well, I looked at my eyebrows more closely after that. Maybe they were a little light in some places. I just never wanted the penciled-on eyebrows I saw so many people rocking. So, I decided shortly after I’d fill them in light and naturally. Shout out to Nicole for the heads up.
My sister, Kaitlyn, actually got me the Milani pomade eyebrow color (natural taupe) I use to make the bottom line! Then, I just fill them in with a taupe blonde pencil and apply blonde eyebrow gel (blonde) on top to set the look! When I was little, I used to look in the mirror and say, “Mommy, I no have no eyebrows.” They were really blonde back then. See? I’ve come a long way.
I apply my bronzer, blush, and highlight next! I haven’t tried the Young Living Mineral Bronzer yet, but I’ve been using the Anastasia bronzer (Saddle and Rich Amber are my two favorite shades), but I do absolutely adore the Young Living Mineral Blush (“I Do Believe You’re Blushin'” is my favorite shade)! The color is fabulous and it applies just as smoothly as the foundation. I also use the mineral misting spray to prep the brush for the blush. A really amazing highlight (seen on my face here, above the blush) is the Anastasia X Amrezy Highlight! It gives a subtle glow to your cheek bones and I am obsessed.
Lastly, I apply my eye make-up and do my lips. If you’re going for a more natural look, you may want to apply a little mineral shadow and some mascara, like I did! I use two types of mascara (They’re Real and Better than Sex). My lashes are real. I use Rodan + Fields LashBoost Serum about every other two nights now and they stay long! I used to use it nightly for the first few months. Now, I just maintain. I also apply the Young Living Mineral Lip Gloss by itself for a more natural look. When I am going out, I apply it over my lip color! I am wearing the color “Embrace” above.
Some Other Products Worth Mentioning:
- Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Sunshine Serum: I actually used this while in Hawaii when I was wearing no make-up! It was just a light bronzing serum that kept my skin moisturized and glowy! It provides immediate color, while delivering nutrients to the skin.
- Too Faced Primed & Peachy: I always used Smashbox Primer, but I’ve since discovered this one! It has a cooling effect when you apply it and it smells like peaches– yum!
- Cover FX Dewy Finishing Spray: I spray this on my face after my make-up is applied to not only set my look, but give a soft dewy finish, rather than the matte look!
