Today, we are sharing one of our newest and most beloved staples in our beauty routine. We have told you about our maintenance days– you know the days we spend spray tanning, deep conditioning, and doing a more intense facial routine? What we added is something that we are sure most of you do or have done: teeth whitening. We have tried numerous products from store shelves, but in all honesty, we would never keep up with them due to teeth sensitivity. Sorry, but the holidays are no time to have sensitive teeth or cut out caffeine intake.
In typical Ashley and Erin fashion, we like to try products for a while before we share them with you so we can deliver real results and honest reviews. We both have been using a new whitening system for a while now and in that time, we have both gotten compliments about our bright smiles. Being coffee drinkers, our teeth aren’t as bright white as they used to be and we’ve tried relentlessly to do something about it. White strips, whitening toothpaste, charcoal powders, generic whitening trays, paint-on gels– you name it. Nothing worked the way we wanted, and if it did, we experienced major sensitivity… until recently. Cue Smile Brilliant.

When we received our kits in the mail, they were full of everything we needed to get started. It was a little intimidating to make our own impressions for our trays to be mailed out, but Smile Brilliant gives excellent step-by-step instructions and it was actually really easy.
Using plastic trays and the catalyst and base provided, we both created molds that would be used by Smile Brilliant to make custom whitening trays that would deliver the most personalized and effective whitening experience. Once the molds had hardened (minutes later), we mailed them back in the hot pink pre-labeled package. It took about a week to get our whitening trays back– and they fit perfectly. They even come in a protective travel case. The original package also included whitening gel and desensitizing gel so that we could immediately begin whitening as soon as our trays were received.
Our First Reaction.
After following the provided step-by-step instructions, we both decided it would be best to leave it on for 30 minutes the very first time, as recommended by Smile Brilliant. The whitening gel has a warming feeling to it at first. The trays do take some time getting used to, especially if you aren’t used to wearing any type of retainer or tray. The maximum time we have both used the trays is an hour; Smile Brilliant says you can leave them in up to 3 hours, but we have not yet committed to that long of time. It is recommended that you use a Q-tip to clean the gum line to remove any excess gel. One time Ashley experienced mild sensitivity because she used a little too much whitening gel and skipped the clean-up step. When all directions are followed, neither one of us experienced any sensitivity, especially when we follow up with the desensitizing gel. Admittedly, Erin skips this step frequently if she is running out of time and has never experienced any sensitivity. This is the first time for both of us that we have been able to whiten effectively and sensitivity free!
During these past few weeks we have both had dental check-ups and Erin even had dental surgery. Even when we both had to miss a few days here and there, the results were still visible, even after numerous trips to Dunkin’ and Starbucks.

Would We Recommend This Product?
Absolutely! The results are amazing and it only took a few times to see significant changes in our smiles. We noticed a difference after the first time, but due to stain build up, it took a while to achieve the desired bright white smiles we were seeking. We like that the trays aren’t bulky and we are able to carry on doing our normal tasks. Due to the amount of saliva produced, we wouldn’t recommend wearing them out and about, but they are great for when you’re at home getting ready or cleaning the house– and they can be used for just 30 minutes for a quick whitening treatment!
