For Ashley’s 29th birthday, we went on a surprise outing to Lawrenceville, PA, located just outside the beautiful city of Pittsburgh. She had no idea where we were going all week, but she likes surprises, so not one of her best friends let her in on our little secret.
We set out the Saturday evening after her birthday, Ashley’s Ford Explorer packed full of excited friends ready for a fun evening on the town. Ashley was only told in what direction to head and she knew she was traveling toward the Steel City. When we arrived in Lawrenceville, she stopped at each stop light, scanning busy Butler Street, wondering silently and audibly about her secret plans for the night.
As we passed by the Candle Lab, she figured it out.
“That’s where you’re taking me, isn’t it?”
*Silence*
“Hello!?! Is that where we’re going?”
*random discussion about other things*
“GUYS! Are we going there?”
Finally, we told her; yes, she had figured it out. And we had to find parking.
When we got inside, there were so many people and we had a pretty large party of 7. We had tried to make reservations a week prior, but there were none available; it was the weekend before Valentine’s Day. We put our name on the list and were told there would be a wait of an hour or more. We didn’t know if we’d be able to do the Candle Lab and make our dinner reservations.
Brigette, however, got us started with our clipboards and candle jars, so our name could be added to the waiting list, and then found us a vacant table at which to relax! After making our jar and scent selections, we were able to sit and talk while Ashley opened up her cards and gifts. About 20 minutes later, we were led to our seats where we started making our candle creations. Wonderful customer service! Thank you, Brigette!
After we sat down at our seats at The Candle Lab bar, our checklists were reviewed by one of the two girls from the Candle Lab who were helping our party and we discussed possible scent options. We had written on our checklists the scents of candles that we liked the most upon arriving, so now we had to decide what type of candle to make. Decisions, decisions. Every girl had a different candle in mind! We were presented with the scented oil and had to mix them together in a ratio that was to our liking. Then, we poured them in to the heated soy wax and stirred until the timer was up. We also created pretty labels for each of our candles.
Our candles would not be done that night so we headed off to dinner at the Abby on Butler and had a wonderful dessert after at Naturoll Creamery (you must try it!). We enjoyed our time at The Candle Lab Pittsburgh and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to do a fun girls’ night out! <3 Just a heads up, if you’re going with a large party, like we did, make reservations a few weeks in advance to guarantee your spot.
Ashley would like to thank her friends Erin, Lisa, Tia, Kaitlyn, Becky and Kelly for taking time out of their busy lives to plan and spend an awesome evening with her. She would also like to thank Brigette and the rest of the staff at The Candle Lab Pittsburgh for being so accommodating, for taking photos, for being patient, and for allowing us to have an amazing experience!
We’re looking forward to visiting The Candle Lab Pittsburgh again soon!
xo,
Ash & Er
