….it’s the best escape room in Pittsburgh! We have never been to a better one in the Pittsburgh area and we’ve tried quite a few. Right off the bat, we noticed it’s the most unique and the largest. AND there are three completely different components of Escape Room Sports in Wexford, PA.
If you’re looking for something a little different to do this weekend, we have the perfect place for you! Escape Room Sports is owned and run by the Bernard brothers, Walter and Wynton. Both have a passion for sports and wanted to create something new and fun for the Pittsburgh community. The brothers often heard that there was “nothing to do in the area.” They knew that Pittsburghers are extremely passionate about two things– their sports teams & family. Since these same two things are valued greatly by Walter and Wynton, they realized they could incorporate both and open something fun for people of all ages. In the process, they opened the first virtual reality and archery battle arena in the Pittsburgh area, as well as the largest escape room.
Why are they so passionate about sports? Both Walter and Wynton have played professionally. Walter, a defensive back (playing both corner and safety), attended the University of New Mexico on a football scholarship. He signed NFL contracts with the Chargers, Colts, and Seahawks, spending 3 years in Seattle. He is currently retired from the NFL and is a practicing attorney and author. Wynton attended Niagara University on a baseball scholarship. He was drafted by the Padres in 2012 and also signed contracts with the Tigers, Giants, and most recently, the Cubs, where he currently plays on their triple A farm team.
Despite the impressive resumes of both Bernard brothers, their kind and welcoming natures top the list! You can truly see their passion for sports and the Pittsburgh community the moment you step into the facility. Now, check out what this amazing place they created has to offer…
Archery Battle
The first thing we tried at ERS was the Archery Battle. The Archery Battle is intended for a medium-sized group and takes place in an enclosed area. We did some practice shooting at the targets and then the two of us, Walter, and Rich (Ashley’s husband) did a 2-on-2 live battle. We did wear masks, but the tips of the arrows are soft and resemble marshmallows, so they don’t really hurt. It is similar to a dodgeball-style battle and really is a WORKOUT. You’re constantly moving, squatting, hiding behind bunkers, and running to retrieve arrows. By the time our four-minute clock expired, we were a sweaty mess (and we won, we might add). #GIRLPOWER 😉
We’re looking forward to going back and trying this with a larger group! Next time, we will definitely be wearing athletic shorts and messy buns. Athleisure is definitely recommended!
Baseball Escape Room
No spoilers– we promise!!
We did a walk-through of Pittsburgh’s largest escape room, where your mission is to find out who murdered the starting pitcher for the “Pittsburgh Yinz” baseball team. After watching a press conference from the Pittsburgh Police Chief, you set out to find evidence and solve the black & gold murder mystery.
The detail, technology, and thought put into this Escape Room is unrivaled. The escape room itself is made up of 5 rooms– making it the largest in the Pittsburgh area. We were so impressed by the quality of the room itself, as well as the software developed for this escape room. This one is a must-do.
Virtual Reality Escape Room
Admittedly, this was initially the part of Escape Room Sports we were probably least excited for, but ended up being our favorite part. Walter put each of us in our own small room and got us set up with our VR headsets and controllers. A few seconds later, we could see each other face-to-face in an alternate reality– Beyond Medusa’s Gate. After choosing our characters, we were on a mission to escape.
The world of VR was new to us so it took us a little while to get used to the controllers and stop running into our actual surroundings, but within a few minutes, we had it figured out!
Not only was it fun to complete the tasks to escape, but it was set in a beautiful Ancient Greece– and we felt like we were really there! After we escaped, a drone flew by our ship and took photos of us from all angles. Here we are…
Dinner
After a trip to ESR, you are definitely going to work up an appetite. We sure did– so, we ordered amazing wings and fries at Big Shot Bob’s Cranberry location. The food was served quickly and the facility was clean. The staff was friendly and welcoming and answered all of our questions (since it was our first time there)! Oh, and the leftover wings made for an excellent meal the following day! YUM.
When you visit Escape Room Sports, tag us in your photos! We’d love to see what experiences you tried!! Be sure to schedule an appointment online before visiting. Don’t forget to use the code “alamode10” for 10% off your experience!
