Frequently, while we are traveling we pick one or two days where we don’t have a plan and we just kind of “go.” We knew that we wanted to visit the real life UP! house and a few other really neat places in Salt Lake City so that was the direction we headed toward. Our first destination ended up being a dud. It was an exhibit that only comes through Utah every so many months. Next!
Our next stop, the real life “Up!” house. We had done some research prior to arriving and learned that it isn’t just an attraction, but people actually live there. If you want photos on the property or an actual photoshoot with costumes and/or props, you have to schedule an appointment and pay a fee, but its okay to stop by and snap a few photos on the outside. It just so happened that one of the residents came out to get her mail mid-drone shot; she kind of reminded us of Ellie from the movie dressed in overalls! We did our best to respect their privacy so we didn’t hang out there long, but the experience itself was awesome. The best part is it’s right here in Utah, and not Paradise Falls on the edge of a cliff or flying somewhere with a massive amount of balloons coming from the chimney. It was, however, tucked into a little neighborhood in rural Utah with a beautiful Rocky Mountain view behind it. It was such a rush of excitement as we hung out outside the home from one of our favorite Disney movies!
What are a couple of girls to do when the weather is gloomy and we still have the entire day ahead of us? Well, on our way in on Tuesday we noticed a “Welcome to Utah” sign after leaving the airport. We so badly wanted a photo with that sign, but unfortunately it would have been unsafe for us to stop. We were determined to find a sign. Where else but to go to the Utah-Wyoming state line? So we got on our phones in search of the perfect Utah sign and we found one. It was actually fairly close to Park City, just 40 minutes from where we are staying. So… we headed towards Wyoming.
Running low on gas, we stopped in a little coal mining town (that seemed to be in the middle of the desert) and we were getting a few stares because of our “springy” attire. When we left Salt Lake it was almost 80 degrees and partly sunny. But as we headed north, storms were rolling in and the temperature was dropping. We were in shorts and tank tops and the temperature was in the low 50s! We got our gas and finished our drive to Wyoming. We snapped a quick photo of the Wyoming sign as we flew past (the speed limit on that interstate is 80MPH and we loved it).
Once we got turned around we were able to safely pull off to snap a few photos and get a couple really great drone shots. They actually have a really nice pull-off area as this particular sign is considered a “tourist attraction.” See we aren’t the only crazy ones out there! There were actually a few people who had stopped before us and after us but we were definitely the only ones who had a drone and other equipment insuring a perfect shot.
After we got back in the car and put the heat on full blast (we were freezing), we decided to head back to Park City for dinner. Every time we asked locals for recommendations on where to go for dinner we were asked, “Have you been to No Name Saloon yet?” We were definitely curious, so we did a quick change of clothes (something warmer) and then we headed to Historical Park City and went to No Name Saloon on Main Street.
It was very rustic with high top tables and you could clearly tell we were in a local hot spot. Everyone that walked in the door recognized someone there. We decided that while we were there we would embrace it and order one of their famous “Buffalo Burgers”, but not before we indulged in Artichoke Jalapeño dip as an appetizer. Ashley got the No Name Buffalo Burger and Erin got the Saloon Burger. On the side of each burger were their famous Buffalo Chips (homemade potato chips) and salsa; they were so addicting. The food was phenomenal and very decently priced, we highly recommend this place if you are ever here in Park City. While you’re here, you have to try a buffalo burger. They’re YUMMY!
After we had full bellies, it was time to put on our comfy sweat pants, turn on Golden Girls, and scroll through all of our photos and drone footage from the day.
Just wait until you see what we are going to do next!
xo,
Er & Ash
