Ever since my brother and I were little, we always enjoyed our little trips to the “dollar store.” Most of the time going meant that we had been well-behaved and were allowed to pick a reward. Years later, it would become one of my regular stops for essentials, and you will be amazed at the quality items I find here.
My mom is known for having laundry that smells amazing. I was convinced that she spent tons of money on expensive detergents and fabric softeners. To my surprise, it is the work of these fragrance boosters (In-Wash Fragrance Boosters). They are $1 for 10.5 ounces. 5 of these fill up my Members Mark bottle that was $11 at Sam’s Club. You can also compare them to Downy Unstopables ($9.94 for 14.8 ounces) , Gain Fireworks Scent Boosters ($11.97 for 20.1 ounces) , and Purex Crystals ($5.94 for 15.5 ounces). They make my clothes smell fantastic. A little bit goes a long way; I have even diluted them in water to make a nice fabric refresher. My husband has very sensitive skin and they have never bothered him, just in case you were worried about that!
I buy LA’s Totally Awesome Laundry Detergent specifically for curtains, rugs, and towels. I make sure I have a bottle of this when I am doing my spring and fall cleaning. I love my home to smell good and this detergent works great for the fabric jobs. I also wash Stella’s dog bed cover in this. She actually prefers a really clean smelling bed and clean sheets; I am telling you– she’s half human! I have also been known to use just a little bit of this detergent in a bucket of water and taking a rag lightly to my walls during spring cleaning as well as adding just a small amount to my carpet shampooer for my couches and carpets. Ashley and I joke all the time about us never having enough time. Our spring cleaning starts in January and we wrap it up in September, just in time for fall cleaning to begin!
LA’s Totally Awesome Cleaner has been a lifesaver on numerous occasions. It’s funny when Ashley and I talk about some of our favorite cleaning products because this one always comes up. Both of our moms use it and we now can see why! My husband is a mechanic so grease is something I deal with very often. This cuts right through all the grime. When you pair it with my favorite sponges there is nothing you can’t clean. It is also awesome for getting stains out of clothing. Just let it soak for 10-20 mins, then throw it in the washer!
Please be aware that it is VERY strong. If you are not diluting it (which you are supposed to), wear a mask because it can and will cause chemical bronchitis/pneumonia. Just ask Ashley or her mom; you will have a nagging cough for weeks and it can be very dangerous. This is the best cleaner–strong and effective, but USE IT SAFELY.
You can buy this Colegate whitening toothpaste anywhere really, but what most don’t know is you can spend $6.51 at Wal-Mart or $1 for the exact same size at Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree carries numerous full-sized name brand items and this is just one of many.
My mom and I often make trips to the Dollar Tree together; while we were there the other day she told me that she had seen a lot of great reviews over these skin care items. I was curious and I am always up for a good skincare regime so I decided to give it a try. I LOVE IT. I purchased the face wash, the oil, and the facial wipes, and I can’t say enough about them. I told my mom, “It’s only $3 dollars and if I am not crazy about them for every day use, then I will just take them on small trips and camping.” They will now be a staple in my daily facial routine and I am not sorry. There was another line with rose water in it, similar to the new rose water items in my Fab Fit Fun box this summer, so I may try them next, but I am really enjoying the coconut water. It is light in fragrance, my skin feels soft, and the oil felt amazing under my makeup. $3 well spent!
There are other items that I am wild about from the Dollar Tree, but these are the few that I make sure I am always stocked up on! I recently purchased their new Cleaning Vinegar, full-sized bottle of Comet toilet bowl cleaner, Armor All car detailing supplies, and their new lemon-scented Fabuloso (Ashley and I are obsessed with the green apple scent but it’s not always available. Just wait until she smells this one, she will be hooked too!) I took the liberty of price-comparing on Wal-Mart’s website for you. It took me a while to realize how much extra I was spending just because of convenience. I have made past purchases of craft stuff there, like wreath frames, burlap, wrapping paper, and ribbon too. They have also upped their greeting card game! Let’s just say the Dollar Tree isn’t like it used to be– and I am all for it. What are some of your favorite items from the dollar store that I need to try?

Erin
