Almost every photo from this video is from the last year and our many adventures. There are a few other favorites sprinkled in. I chose one of our favorite Thomas Rhett songs because we have always both loved country music and listen to it on a lot of our road trips. 🙂
August 1st, 1990: The day my best friend entered the world, almost exactly 6 months after I made my entrance. 5 years later, we would start kindergarten together at Marshall Elementary School. And 5 years after that, we would meet in Mrs. Amber’s class and become best friends.
Some might call it a coincidence that our birthdays aligned, putting us both in the Class of 2008 and in two desks side-by-side in that 5th grade classroom; others may call it fate. Our friendship was definitely a part of God’s plans for our lives and I can tell you that Erin’s friendship is truly a blessing to me and has been for almost 20 years now. People sometimes say we are total opposites, which is true in many ways, but our friendship has always “worked” for several reasons.
And here they are:
1. We ARE opposites.
I’m not just talking about our hair colors, but in most regards, we are different. It’s actually kind of cool how it balances us out and makes our friendship better. She’s taught me so much and in return, I’ve taught her a few things too. Find me another math teacher who knows so much about hair or another hair dresser who is so well-written and knowledgable about teaching.. lol. Being opposite really just provides you with more well-roundedness in your friendship and as separate people.
2. We love to travel.
Something we commonly hear from people is, “You’re traveling again?!” Yep. We make it a priority to see somewhere new as often as possible. Even if we have to drive there, we make it a point to do the thing we love together. We both have that passion to see new places and things and we love best to hit the road on a best friend trip!
On this blog, you can find many posts about the places we’ve traveled– including, but not limited to New England, California, Disneyland, Baltimore Harbor, Disney World, Michigan, and Utah.
3. We make it a point to talk every day.
Even on our busiest days, we make it a point to check in and say hello. We both get a little busy during our work days, but there are always at least a few minutes to catch up. I’m not saying we have time to go for a Pink Drink and hang out every day (that would be nice!), but just a few short messages a day can keep a friendship going strong. We have to make time for those we care about and show them.
“You are never too busy to take time out of your day for those who matter most.”
4. We pray for and with each other.
If you’ve ever looked at us and thought something is different about them, you are probably right. This past school year my kids taught me something; I had previously never heard it before. They used to always say the phrase “You’re praying on my downfall” to each other. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what it means. Though they were joking (most of the time), the sad thing is that it happens more than we realize. People become so focused on getting ahead themselves, they forget to support those who they love. Sometimes, they even wish that others would fail so that they appear to be more successful. Erin and I– we’re not like that.
Selfishness or competition have never been found anywhere in our friendship story. We support and cheer for each other in this crazy life. We pray for each other and when the going gets tough, we’ve even prayed with each other (where two or more are gathered… Matthew 18:20).
5. We don’t take ourselves too seriously.
We honestly believe our blog has worked so well for these 2 and a half years because of the unique perspectives we both bring. Though we work hard and do our best to put time into making it a professional, informative, and high-quality blog, we don’t take ourselves so seriously. Spend 10 minutes around us and you’ll see we spend 5 of them laughing. We don’t consider it a “job” because we love working together on this blog and enjoy writing content for it. It has actually brought us closer together and made our friendship stronger.♡
Happy birthday, Erin!! Thank you for being my best friend. xoxo
Love,
Ash
