Relax. Unplug. Getaway.
Our stay at a tiny cabin nestled in nature.
a fashion, travel, + real life blog
This weekend, we experienced a new and unique type of “getaway.” It was an incredible escape we will never forget! In fact, we can’t wait to do it again! We stayed at the brand new Getaway House Pittsburgh + Cleveland Outpost. If you’ve never heard of Getaway House, it is a simple and tiny cabin nestled in nature. There are several outposts nationwide including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, Washington DC, and now, the new Pittsburgh + Cleveland location. This new outpost is located about an hour from both Pittsburgh and Cleveland and about two hours from us, just across the border of Ohio, in Lisbon.
What’s awesome about Getaway House is that they take care of all the little details. All the information you need is e-mailed and texted to you. They even allow you to text them for assistance. We communicated via text message on our trip when we asked for an extended checkout and it was taken care of promptly. Amazing customer service.
We arrived when it was dark, but were able to use the map provided to us via text message to locate our cabin, Vivien. We were so impressed with the cleanliness and spacious feel of our little Getaway House. A 4-piece dishware set, pot and pan, and silverware are provided, along with dish towels and bath towels. The bed is made with fresh sheets and a warm flannel blanket. One might call it “glamping” and we would agree. We had a bathroom and all the amenities we could need in our tiny cabin, no bath house necessary. We were super excited to use the s’mores kit left for us and made delicious dessert with it!
Upon arrival, they provide a folder full of details and information about the cabin and suggestions of things to do during your stay. It is highly recommended that you put the “cell phone lockbox” to good use. A Getaway Guide and map of trails, reflection collection cards, and colored pencils are provided as part of your welcome packet. Some of the 36 getaway suggestions are: meditate, play a game of I SPY, read a book, play a card game (playing cards and a few books are also provided), or write in a gratitude journal.
Our favorite part of our Getaway House was the large window that looked out into nature. It does have a blind you can close for privacy, but we didn’t feel the need to close it. The only thing behind us were woods and we enjoyed the natural light coming in and the view of the landscape. We kept it open while we slept, as you could see the woods only by the glow of the moon. It was beautiful to see, as we fell asleep and woke up to raindrops on the roof of Vivien.
Wal-Mart is located just five miles away, allowing you to pick up groceries and other necessities without bringing them in a cooler on the road trip. We picked up some food for the weekend upon arrival. We enjoyed cappuccinos with whipped cream and peppermint sticks throughout our stay.
Located just outside the cabin are two Adirondack chairs and a fire pit with a pit grill. Getaway House provides firewood and s’mores sticks for purchase. They ask that you don’t scavenge for your own; instead, they have it dried and tucked away in a waterproof box next to the fire pit. We were unable to build a fire because of the dreary weather, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying our s’mores. You are also able to cook using the pit grill. Foil is provided for outdoor cooking.
If staying at Getaway House looks like something you would enjoy, our readers can receive $25 off any outpost location when you book using our code “ALAMODE” here. Thank you to Getaway House for hosting us this weekend. We can’t wait to return to nature and unplug again.
