If you haven’t read “I Became a Mom in Less Than 10 days,” you may want to give it a read before jumping into this post.
I want to start by saying thank you to all of you for reading, following, sending messages and gifts, sharing love, and praying for us; we are extremely gracious for everything you all have done and can’t ever thank you enough. What we can do though is give you some more details and a little update – and that is what I am here to do.
I guess you could say “Blessing’s” story started a little over 3 decades ago. A woman fell pregnant (who wasn’t quite ready to be a mom, yet) but despite the naysayers she chose to spare that baby’s life; 30 years later her daughter decided to do what God called her to do (even though she too had naysayers) and she chose to rescue a life. Like throwing a stone into the water, our choices can have a ripple effect. Some ripples flowing far into the future.
When Timmy and I got the calling from God to become foster parents, so many people were terrified and didn’t want us to do it. I had been hurting for almost 6 years and it was out of love that they were concerned; however, God gave us a task and we were determined to follow through. Without hesitation (okay, and maybe just a little bit of fear), we moved forward with the process.
One Sunday in June, my mom rode past a home that had a Cozy Coupe sitting in the yard with a “free” sign on it. She drove by it multiple times and she always says that the Lord kept placing it on her heart to stop and pick that car up. Multiple times that day something stood between her and getting that car, but isn’t it just like God to intervene? A few hours later she and I were having coffee on the porch, while enjoying a warm summer evening, when we got a phone call that a loved one needed help. I offered to drive her to her destination and off we went. On our way back she yelled “STOP!” and I immediately hit the brakes. “What’s wrong?!” I said panicked, as she jumped out of the car. She comes back wheeling this Hot Pink Cozy Coupe and said, “God has been telling me to pick this up all day!” A plastic car? Really, mom? “Here,” she said, “let’s put it in your back seat.” Before I knew it, I was driving someone else’s trash and turning it into our treasure. “Where am I ever going to put that thing?” I asked. She offered to keep it for me until we had our first placement. She got out of the car and I joked and said, “Watch our first placement be a girl.”
That Thursday, we received the phone call for “Blessing.”
Blessing rides in that car non-stop when she visits my parents. Sometimes, we have to take turns pushing her for hours– no exaggeration– until she falls asleep. It soothes her and makes her happy… and wouldn’t you know that she is drawn to everything pink?!
We always enjoy telling that story. I think it’s because we know that God works even in the smallest ways. Don’t doubt those small little tasks God asks you to do; they might sound crazy at first, but that one little thing can bring someone else so much joy.
You may also remember from my previous article that “Blessing” had some major health concerns. We still haven’t gotten a “diagnosis” yet, but I think the most satisfying moment for me was what happened this past Friday at the neurologist’s office. It was shock and awe as that doctor rubbed his forehead and said, “Wow, this isn’t even the same baby I saw a few months ago… “
Here’s why.
She could barely hold her head up when we got her (she was over the age of 6 months at that point). Within 3 days, she started holding her bottle. In a month, she sat up by herself. In two months she got into the crawling position. At 3 months, she was full blown crawling and right at the beginning of 4 months, she started pulling herself up into the standing position. She responds when you call her name, says words & repeats sounds, and can feed herself (she loves French fries).
So when the doctor looked at us and said, “I just can’t believe this” as he held her and she stood for him, I couldn’t help but tear up. She is no longer measuring 3 months behind and is in fact, excelling in certain areas according to the ASQ tests.
We don’t have our official adoption date yet, but we are beginning to round the corner into the next steps and phases, which will require another batch of paperwork. I promise to keep you all informed when I can.
We have so many more stories that we could share giving us more and more confirmation that God was, and still is, totally involved in this… but we will share those as God leads.
xo,
Er

I too was lead by God to foster after being handed a newborn one evening when her mommy went to jail for what would be for 13 months of her life. I was 41 years old and what I thought was too old to be a mommy again but God revealed to me that he knew I wanted more children and wanted to give me the desires of my heart. So I took those words and ran with them and our process went smoothly and she will soon be 6 years old. I love your story and I will continue to pray for your process as you round the bend. Congrats to you both for such a BLESSING❤❤❤
